How do you get your kids to listen?

Well, let me be clear: they DO listen…. Sometimes, just not consistently. And one mom even said:  “sometimes, it’s as though he CHOOSES NOT to listen!”

Now, I’m talking about the boring stuff. The stuff that needs to get done around the house: picking up after themselves, cleaning their room, helping their brother or sister  out, bringing some toilet paper upstairs since they’re coming this way, or having to apologize to their sibling for whatever reason.

…. You know, regular life stuff !

Ahhh ! The frustration when they just don’t want to listen!  I see it all the time: With my own family, kids at the mall, the kids at the school…

So it got me thinking after we left our makeshift support group thing we had going on at the park. I decided to text them a list of what I usually say to get my kids to listen in hopes that it will help them with their challenges and roadblocks.

So my hope for you today, dear listener, is that while you’re listening to this episode, keep an open mind.  Listen to understand where I’m coming from and then take what you need. Tweak what resonates and makes sense for you, so that it applies to your family. I hope this helps!

The topic I chose to talk about, in today’s episode, is the basis of how I approach things with my kids. Call it the BLUEPRINT on how to teach my kids and get them to be more and more independent, feel confident and empowered so that I, myself, feel comfortable and confident; and that they’ve got the basics, or foundations in place for the next level that will eventually all add up to THEM becoming self-sufficient, capable, responsible adults. 

This is the foundation of what we do to Set our Kids up For Success!  

In this episode, I unveil how we started and what got the ball rolling for us to have this mindset; the logic behind our thinking that benefits all of us, and the one thing you can do to make your life easier!

Podcast #4: How To Get Your Kids Started With Laundry

Today, I’m going to talk to you about laundry. The reason why I’m bringing this up now it’s because it’s a BEAST!

When everything was normal, the laundry was always pulling up –  right?  If this was happening to you, because it was definitely happening to me. The laundry was always the last thing being done: either in the wee hours of the morning or right before bed. Or, actually getting your laundry from basket to basket.  So if it was clean laundry, you’re just picking it out from there.

I’m hoping that this is going to help you, in case your kids or your partner isn’t into the whole laundry bit and it all falls on you. So I want to help you out, my dear friend: Spread the joy of laundry. Or, spread the REALITY of what laundry is about! It’s not that bad and it’s not that big of a deal. And with some help, it can actually become a very enjoyable process! Can you believe it? Laundry enjoyable? Yes. It can be.

So by involving the kids at ANY TIME of this process, from toddlers to teens who aren’t sure how to go about it, plug them in into these little mini steps. And slowly, as they get used to it, add a little bit more to their responsibilities. It’s going to serve them so well in the long run and for you especially. We’re teaching our kids to become adults. So teaching this life skill? It’s happening right now!
