Welcome

Hey there! Welcome back to another episode of the Parenting Guide: Organizing Habits Made Easy podcast. I’m thrilled to have you join me for episode number 48, where we’ll be diving into the current challenges that many of us are facing. From the impending holiday stress to strikes affecting schools and hospitals, and the lingering threat of illnesses like the flu and COVID, it’s safe to say we’re all in the same chaotic boat.

So, buckle up, grab a cup of coffee, and let’s talk about coping strategies that might just be your lifesaver in these turbulent times.

find out how families with 3+ kids tackle the beast: laundry!

The Holiday Hustle:

We all know that the holidays can be both magical and maddening. Decorating, hosting, shopping for the perfect gifts – it’s a recipe for stress. But wait, there’s more! In addition to the festive frenzy, we’re contending with strikes affecting hospitals and schools, not to mention the persistent threat of illnesses.

The Health Hurdle:

As if the holiday chaos weren’t enough, here comes the curveball: getting sick. I recently found myself in the grips of a nasty bug, and still trying to shake it off. It turns out; I’m not alone in this struggle. Many of us, our families, friends, and even acquaintances are grappling with illnesses, making this already challenging time even more daunting.

Strikes and Shutdowns:

To add a layer of complexity, we’re dealing with strikes – nurses striking in hospitals and teachers striking in schools, as well as some school bus companies on strike too!  If you’re a parent, you know the drill: kids are home, and suddenly, you’re thrust into the role of educator, entertainer, and referee all at once. It’s a juggling act that can leave your head spinning.

Coping Strategies to the Rescue:

Now, I don’t want to be the messenger of doom and gloom, so let’s shift gears and focus on some strategies to help you navigate through these chaotic times.

3 things to establish now before losing your s#!t later on (during the school year)

Strategy 1: Creating Personal Space

I get it; personal space seems like an elusive dream when the kids are home, the house is a mess, and chaos reigns supreme. But trust me, finding even a few minutes to carve out your personal oasis can make a world of difference.

During a particularly trying week when I was sick, I couldn’t escape the house, so I cracked open the back door for some fresh air. It was like a reset button for my mental state. Creating physical and mental distance, even if just for a few minutes, can bring a much-needed sense of peace.

Strategy 2: Tapping into Creativity

When life gets chaotic, tapping into your creative side can be a game-changer. For me, it’s writing, but it could be anything that sparks your imagination. Maybe it’s doodling, crafting, or even observing your kids in their creative pursuits. My daughter’s dressmaking journey became my muse, pulling me out of the rut and infusing a bit of creativity into my day.

Strategy 3: Reconnecting with People

In the midst of chaos, reaching out to like-minded friends or family can be a lifeline. Laughter truly is the best medicine, and connecting with those who share your sense of humor can lift the weight off your shoulders. Whether it’s a quick call, a virtual hangout, or a meme exchange, reconnecting with your joyous tribe can provide much-needed relief.

Wrapping it Up:

In a world filled with strikes, sickness, and holiday hustle, it’s crucial to find strategies that work for you. Creating personal space, tapping into creativity, and reconnecting with joyous souls are just a few ways to cope with the overwhelming challenges we face as parents.

Remember, you’re not alone in this chaotic journey. Take a deep breath, find your personal coping mechanisms, and let’s navigate through this together. Until next time, stay resilient, stay sane, and most importantly, stay you!
